Leadership 101: How did this module start?
Dear JPS Families,
I'm Akshara Sharma and I am a member of the Aspiring Leaders team. I am going to write about what we did in our first lesson. Our first lesson was with Mr.Baldwin and Mr.Gower. All of our parents came and our coaches explained about the course in full detail. after all of the explanation ended we played two games with the parents first: who do you want to be like, second: things which are essential, desirable and what a leader shouldn't be. In the first task I choose Mr.McDermott because he is organised, patient, listens to others points, can control things well moreover, he is unbelievingly polite. Some parents gave their points too. In the second task we stuck post sticks on the wall explaining the things that a leader should be. After that, the parents had gone and we played a game, there was a blind sheep and a goat who couldn't speak. The goat had to blow a whistle and the sheep had to listen and follow the goat. We also played a game we were ship wrecked and we had to write how we will survive. We were put in groups of 3/4/5. The third game we played was about knowing each other, we formed two lines and faced each other and asked questions alternatively. By the end of the task I got to know my teammates names and got a better idea of what they like or what they want to do in life. After a while we played a game for testing our listening skills. We got some fritzels (type of an eatable stick)and a person had to be a communicator the other person had to be the listener. The communicator had to draw a shape with the stick in 1 minute and the listener had to draw the same shape by following the instructions of the communicator. The listener couldn't ask questions that was called one way communication. When the listener can ask questions it is called two way communication. Finally at the end of the lesson we found out two way communication is better than one way. Then we made a poster describing what is leadership and we decorated our poster before presenting it to the teammates. It was type of an art lesson! In our last task Mr. McDermott came in while we were discussing democratic leadership. Democratic leadership is when you let everyone give their opinion. Lassez Faire is when you give your group all the work. Autocratic leadership is when you are giving some specialist a task which they are good at. Eventually our lesson was finished and our coach, Mr. Gower distributed some aspiring leadr shirts to us, to wear when we have a meeting. Thank you for taking the time to read my entry. Akshara |
